What Should My Skincare Routine Be?

When to start?

As young as possible! At Relaxayvoo we see skincare as a ritual as well as a routine and you are never too young to start; the earlier you get into a routine, the better and you’ll thank yourself when you’re older! I know what it means when my daughters say they are doing their skincare. It is that little moment they have for themselves that will give them not only a glow but confidence!

The steps

We are asked this on a daily basis by mothers, grandmothers, and teenagers! Whether you’re after age prevention, cell regeneration, hydration or simply a youthful glow a skincare routine is essential, and it doesn’t have to be complicated! At Relaxayvoo we like to keep the ritual as pleasurable and as simple as possible to ensure that you’ll want to keep doing it!

Cleansing

If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a hundred times! The first step in any skincare routine is to double cleanse. It sounds harsh but it just means to give a more thorough cleanse, it can revitalize dull skin and allow other skin care products to penetrate more effectively. Now it isn’t for everyone.  I trust my skin to show me what to do.  And generally the less I do the better my skin is.  During your cleansing process, make sure you protect your skin barrier. Your skin is your body’s largest organ. Each of its layers has its own role in helping to protect your body.  We need to be gentle.

Masks

I love a good mask once a week. To make sure I clean all impurities from the skin.
But again it isn’t about doing it everyday.  As I really believe we need to give the skin the tools it needs to do its job, but we can’t disturb it too much!

Serum, oil, moisturiser?

A serum essentially is designed to nourish, protect, and hydrate your skin, and is a great next step after cleansing and before moisturising. It contains a concentrated amount of active ingredients that will potentially penetrate the skin’s surface for optimum effectiveness. Hyaluronic acid is a great option to add to your skincare routine.

I have never been good at adding steps. So we formulated thinking we would get the right active ingredients to simplify the routine.  So if you aren’t into many steps, Relaxayvoo might be right for you:

Our day serum is the first thing to put onto your skin after cleansing.  You can use it alone (5 drops onto a damp skin. Massage in for best results). You can also add a few drops into your day cream.  This nutritious formulation is highly concentrated in Vitamins A, B, D, E to smooth wrinkles and protect the skin all day long.  And we need this protection, specially living in urban environment.

For the night
Our night oil is a face serum/face oil/moisturiser. After cleansing you can apply 5 drops onto a damp skin. No need to moisturise. Prickly pear does the job by boosting the skin’s water-retaining properties.  You will wake up with a soft nourished skin.

Spf

Always include an SPF in your routine. Even in winter.  Even if like in England the skies are very low.  I usually never go out with less than 30 SPF protection.
But I have been struggling finding the organic/natural sunblock that I like. Recently I have been using an SPF moisturiser after the day face serum. This is what I found works best for me.

Why do we love face oil

Face oils keep the skin soft and nourished. They can act as an effective barrier for the outer layer of your skin helping to lock hydration by preventing loss of moisture to the skin. If formulated properly with potent ingredients, the oils will sink into the skin and nourish it at a deeper level than any cream.

Can we put face oil if on an acne prone skin?

Yes.  But it depends which ones.  Don’t be put off by using an oil, it’s a myth that using an oil on oily skin can create problems or aggravate acne. It is about balancing the sebum production,
For example, when we formulated our balance face oil, we chose to work with Rosehip. Why?  Rosehip is a natural source of Vitamin C, a potent antioxidant that can help with everything from irregular pigmentation to collagen production. It is also rich in Vitamin A, so it will help minimising the amount of sebum the skin produces.
We also use grapeseed oil, Jojoba and the right balance of carrier oil mixed with well chosen essential oil mix will help the skin to stay in balance.

Is there a miracle product for the skin?

It isn’t one size fit all. It is about finding what works for you.
